Art Basel in Hong Kong is among the world’s premier international art fairs for Modern and contemporary art which provides an in-depth overview of the region’s diversity through both historical material and cutting-edge works by established and emerging artists. In 2018, it will feature 248 premier galleries from 32 countries and territories, half of the participating galleries have exhibition spaces in Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Since the show’s inauguration in Hong Kong, Para Site has been organising its public tours, providing insight into some of the featured artists and works. Following the programme’s success in previous years, Para Site is looking for enthusiastic individuals interested in contemporary art to join our guided tour programme in 2018. These bilingual volunteers (Cantonese & English or Mandarin & English) will be asked to give guided tours and interact with guests from all around the world during the opening hours of the art show.
The guides will be responsible for sharing information about participating artists and their artworks from selected galleries to groups of 15 people, during one-hour tours. Para Site will provide a training session prior to the art fair. As the guided tours will run through each day of the fair, we hope for a daily commitment of at least 7 hours from the volunteers. In return, Para Site will provide a complimentary ticket to the Vernissage at Art Basel in Hong Kong on March 28, together with our exclusive Para Site publications and tote bag.

About Para Site: Para Site is Hong Kong’s leading contemporary art centre and one of the oldest and most active independent art institutions in Asia. It produces exhibitions, publications, discursive, and educational projects aimed at forging a critical understanding of local and international phenomena in art and society.
Founded in early 1996 as an artist run space, Para Site was Hong Kong’s first exhibition-making institution of contemporary art and a crucial self-organised structure within the city’s civil society, during the uncertain period preceding its handover to Mainland China. Throughout the years, Para Site has grown into a contemporary art centre, engaged in a wide array of activities and collaborations with other art institutions, museums, and academic structures in Hong Kong and the international landscape. In early 2015, Para Site moved to greatly increased premises, in North Point/Quarry Bay. Throughout its history, Para Site‘s activities have included a range of different formats, among which P/S magazine (1997-2006), a bilingual publication, which was Hong Kong’s first visual arts magazine and a central platform for the development of art writing and of a discursive scene in the city and the Curatorial Training Programme (2007-2010). Since 2012, Para Site has been running an International Art Residency Programme and has been organizing an annual international conference. This is accompanied, starting from 2015, by a new educational format aimed at training young curators and other art professionals.
