Orbis Walk for Sight 2017

orbisThe World Health Organization estimates that there are currently some 285,000,000 visually impaired people worldwide. If this figure represented a national population, it would be the fourth most populous country in the world today! In attempting to overcome such a huge challenge, Orbis is continually striving to enhance their sight-saving capabilities.

To keep Orbis’s newly refurbished Flying Eye Hospital flying high and delivering the sight of hope in remote corners of the world, you are warmly invited to join Walk for Sight 2017! In doing so, you will play a small but vitally important part in energizing Orbis’ sight-saving power and enabling them to create a brighter future for every visually impaired citizen of the world’s Nation of the Blind.

The 2017 walkathon will kick off at 9:30am on Sunday March 26 at Tai Tam Country Park. In addition to a choice of family-friendly 6-kms or experienced 10kms walks, Orbis will be making your day away from Hong Kong’s hustle and bustle doubly memorable with a fun-packed post-walk carnival. A range of kids-friendly activities, including game booths, DIY workshops and stage performance will be organized at the Hong Kong International School.

About Orbis:
Orbis1ORBIS Hong Kong was established in early 90s when a group of impassioned individuals who shared the dream of a world free from preventable blindness came together to raise public awareness about eye care issues. That same year, three high-profile supporters donated US$14 million to fund the purchase of a DC-10 airplane to replace the existing DC-8 Flying Eye Hospital. The biggest of these supporters was leading local businessman Mr. Y.C. Ho, who generously donated US$7 million of the DC-10’s cost. He and his fellow donors’ extraordinary kindness succeeded in instantly raising awareness about ORBIS’s presence in Hong Kong and its worldwide sight-saving work.
