Walk for Nature Birds and Beyond – 2-3 Nov

12 Sep

The annual Walk for Nature will be held for the 28th consecutive year at Hong Kong’s iconic Mai Po Nature Reserve! Recognised as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention in 1995, Mai Po Nature Reserve has been drawing observers since the 1940s and has become known as a bird paradise, with a total of 400 bird species recorded inside the Mai Po Inner Deep Bay wetlands, accounting for 75 per cent of the known bird species in Hong Kong. Among them are 35 species that are classified as worldwide endangered species. Walking along the set route around the reserve, participants not only enjoy the beautiful scenery, but they will also learn about the importance of conservation and how to develop a sustainable lifestyle by participating in a series of interactive challenges set up at various checkpoints. Walk for Nature is an ideal activity for families and friends, groups and anyone who wants to experience a relaxing and meaningful weekend!

While Mai Po Nature Reserve is famous for bird-watching, the unique wetland habitats attract rich biodiversity within the reserve, which is why this year’s theme is Birds & Beyond. At Walk for Nature, participants can glimpse some of the wetland’s nocturnal inhabitants, including bent-winged fireflies, Eurasian otters and the small leopard cat.

Through activities held along the walking route, participants learn about the importance of preserving biodiversity and conserving Hong Kong’s natural environment.
