Sheng Kung Hui St. Christopher’s Home, was founded in 1935 by the late Bishop R.O. Hall in Taipo. They began as an orphanage taking care of homeless children. In 1993, following the instigation of new welfare policies, the Home moved from Taipo to various housing estates located all over Hong Kong.

Today, the Home is the largest non-governmental organization in Hong Kong providing small group home service for children who cannot receive adequate family care. Their services include residential child care service (Small Group Home and Foster Care Service), Pre-primary Education Service (Nursery), Children Health Development Services, Service for New Arrivals and Low-income Families, Clinical Psychological Service and Social Enterprise.

Small Group Home serves children and young people from 4 to 18 years old who cannot receive adequate family care due to various family problems and crises. A 24-hour family-like residential care is provided for them until they can return home or settle down in another long-term residential home placement. The Home also provides Emergency/Short-term Small Group Home Service (ESGH) for children with urgent needs.

Foster Care Service provides out-of-home family care for children who cannot receive adequate family care due to various family problems. Children are placed under the care of foster families and continue to enjoy family life until they can return home, join an adoptive family or live independently.

Foster Care (Emergency) Service provides out-of-home family care for children who cannot receive adequate family care due to emergency or crisis situations in their families. Children are placed under the care of foster families and continue to enjoy family life and happiness until they can return home or secure a long-term residential placement.

Home 3Pre-primary Education Service takes care of children from 2-6 years old with the aim of helping develop children’s multiple intelligence and problem solving skills, foster children’s independence, inter-personal skills and self learning skills, and to develop children’s creative thinking within a happy and relaxing learning environment.

According to the World Health Organization’s definition, health is a balanced state of physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. The Home has always concerned about the welfare of children. In order to promote the health care of children, the Children Health Development Services sets up a specialized and all-rounded children health center service - “Kidsmind” to develop and enhance children’s physical, mental and spiritual health and generate a healthy living environment for children in Hong Kong.
