Call for Volunteers – Room to Read HK Gala on March 6th!‏

RtR HK GalaRoom to Read‘s largest global fundraiser will be taking place here in Hong Kong on Thursday, March 6, at the Four Seasons Hotel, and they need your help!

Without the aid of dedicated volunteers¬ this event simply wouldn¹t be possible. The funds raised on the evening will help Room to Read to support literate communities in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania Vietnam, and Zambia through the building and outfitting of schools and libraries; the creation and implementation of reading and writing curriculum; the training of teachers and librarians; the production and dissemination of local language publications; and the provision of holistic scholarships for young women enrolled in Room to Read’s Girls’ Education Program. For more information about Room to Read‘s programs, please see their website.

Please let them know now if you are interested in helping out at this year’s Room to Read gala and specify the time slots during which you will be available. If you can volunteer, please send Miya Dunets at email Miya.Dunets@roomtoread.org your mobile number and let her know if you have volunteered at previous RtR galas.

This is where they need help and the timings of those different tasks:
Time Slot 1: 3pm-6pm (Setting up event: 8-10 volunteers needed)
Time Slot 2: 6pm-7:30pm (Manning registration: 5-7 volunteers needed)
Time Slot 3: 7:30-11pm (Assisting with the auction: 35 volunteers needed)
Time Slot 4: 11pm-12am (Helping to clear up, collect prizes, and thank guests: 8-10 volunteers needed)

Please don’t be discouraged from volunteering if you cannot stay for the entirety of the time slot for which you sign up. Room to Read still needs you! Please contact Miya Dunets at email Miya.Dunets@roomtoread.org with any questions.

Room-to-Read-photo-2About the charity: Room to Read envisions a world in which all children can pursue a quality education, reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the world.

To achieve this goal, Room to Read focuses on two areas where they believe Room to Read can have the greatest impact: literacy and gender equality in education. Room to Read works in collaboration with communities and local governments across Asia and Africa to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children, and support girls to complete secondary school with the life skills they’ll need Room to Readto succeed in school and beyond by building and stocking libraries, building bright ventilated classrooms, publishing books in the local language, training educators and providing one-on-one support to teachers, and supporting girls to stay in school by providing material support—such as school fees, clean uniforms or transportation, in addition to mentoring and life skills training to help girls succeed in the classroom and beyond.
