China Coast Community

29 Aug

China Coast Community provides residential care for English speaking elderly persons regardless of their financial circumstances. They will have spent a significant period of their lives in Hong Kong or the Far East.

cccThe history of CCC dates back to March, 1978 when the Reverend Stephen Sidebotham, the Dean of St John’s Cathedral, convened a meeting of those concerned with care of the elderly then in Hong Kong. A detailed survey revealed that there was an urgent need for residential facilities for people in Hong Kong whose main language was English and the concept of CCC was born. In 1979, through the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and an interest-free loan from the Hong Kong Government, 63 Cumberland Road was purchased and converted into residential accommodation for eight residents. This was subsequently extended in 1982 to provide additional facilities at the Home, financed by generous donations from a number of individual and corporate benefactors.

Their facilities include
– single Rooms with shared bathroom and toilet facilities
– all meals provided
– twice weekly physiotherapy
– twice weekly occupational therapy
– 24 hour nursing care
– exercise and leisure activities provided by volunteers
– tuck shop – managed by volunteers
– chiropody – every 6 weeks
– beauty treatments such as manicures and haircuts provided on a regular basis
– in house library
– bi-monthly outings

Presently, there are 38 Residents whose needs have changed drastically over the years resulting in the CCC becoming fully licensed as a Care and Attention Home in April 2000 with professional Nursing Care provided on a 24 hour basis. Most of their new admissions are still active people when they enter CCC. However, they have the security of knowing if they become less able or highly dependent they will be cared for with respect and dignity.

Their Mission:
– To provide for all Residents a comfortable, safe, and friendly environment with a high standard of 24 Hour clinical and psychological care.
– To provide appropriate social activities for Residents and the Community clients.
– To encompass the concepts of courtesy, privacy, fairness and personal concerns so as to ensure that all Residents and Community members feel valued and respected.

ccc3Volunteering:
In order to provide a full program of social care for both the Residents and Community Members, a team of volunteers provides invaluable support to CCC through:
